Comments This was our 20th trip to Pirates Point since 1995, and this year was the resort's 30th anniversary. As you can tell, both my wife and I like it there and believe that Little Cayman has the best diving in the Caribbean. I will limit my comments in this review to changes/improvements since my review last year (and many years before) which you can find on the Undercurrent website. As many of you are aware, Gladys Howard, the founder of Pirates Point passed away last fall. Susan, Gladys' daughter, inherited the resort and has embarked on, what promises to be, a multi-year effort to make the resort even better. Between last year and this year they totally refreshed the office area of the club-house and tore down and replaced the building which housed the dive shop, storage, and an overflow guest room. The new building serves the same functions as before, but the dive shop is now air-conditioned and the guest room is spacious and comfortable. (We stayed in it this year.) During this year's shut-down the plan is to paint a large number of the buildings. One of Pirates Point's claims to fame has been the food, with guests from other resorts on the island coming there for a special meal. Anthony, the evening chef for a number of years, reached the Cayman Islands 10 year work visa limit at some point before we got there and has been replaced by Brandon, who is even better. (Which is a hard thing to do.) Diane, the morning chef, has permanent residency so we will continue to enjoy her amazing breakfasts. Diving this year had some pluses and some minuses. On the minus side, we lost 2 days to the hurricane which passed somewhat south of us. While it did not hit the island it drove the surf to the point that the dive boats could not get out of the cut in the reef and the other days the water was mostly choppy and the viz was down. On the positive side the water was 86 degrees so many people were able to dive in just skins. Also on the positive side, the joint lionfish culling done by the resorts on the island continues to improve the variety of small fish that you can see. Before the lionfish arrival we would randomly see arrow blennies. After the lionfish arrived we went several years and did not see a single one. This year we saw 8, which is the best in many years.

UW Photo Comments Rinse tank on boat could have become crowded if there had been a large number of photographers, but was not a problem while I was there. Similarly, the dedicated rinse tank on-shore isn't huge.
