Comments This was our 17th trip to Pirates Point since 1995 (and there are folks who have been there more than we have). That should tell you that we like it - a lot. It's perhaps the most civilized and relaxing dive resort we have ever been to, and, oh by the way, the food is fantastic. (I always gain weight.) All the staff have been there for years and are now all good friends. The 40 ft. Newton dive boat has plenty of room and is easy to dive from. While they only do 2 dives a day (with an occasional night dive) there is no time limit on the dives. You can stay down as long as your computer/air allows you. When weather forced us to dive on the south side of the island, which is generally deeper than the north, my dives ranged from a minimum of 43 minutes up to 70 minutes. On the north (Bloody Bay and Jackson Wall and Reef) they ranged from a minimum of 64 minutes up to 91 minutes. We think the diving is perhaps the best in the Caribbean, not only because of the Bloody Bay Wall, but the resorts on the island band together to keep the lionfish in check so that the small tropicals have a chance. Even having been there as many times as we have, we still find at least one new thing on every trip. A typical day starts with breakfast at 8:00, you leave for the boat around 9:00 to 9:15, do 2 dives with a surface interval (with snacks) between, return to the resort for lunch between 2:00 and 3:00, relax/read/nap the rest of the afternoon, meet at the clubhouse for snacks and drinks between 6:30 and 7:00, have dinner starting around 7:30, and follow that with dominos until bedtime. There are no phones or televisions in the rooms and no live TV in the clubhouse (just one to show movies or your latest video from your GoPro) which makes it a great place to get away from the hectic rat race. There is wifi in the clubhouse and cell phone service on the island if you absolutely have to stay connected. All in all, it's just a great place to get away from it all.

UW Photo Comments Rinse tank on boat could have become crowded if there had been a large number of photographers, but was not a problem while I was there. Similarly, the dedicated rinse tank on-shore isn't huge.

I've been there twice now, and this review captures the place extremely well. The long-time staff is a big selling point for me, those folks know what they're doing and are as efficient as can be.

Hope to see you there someday. We'll be back there the beginning of August. I will also note, as I star rated in the original report, that the staff are extremely good with beginners. The most patient and caring group I have found anywhere.
