Comments This review is actually going to cover 2 trips this year to Pirates Point. My wife and I spent 4 weeks in January and another 2 weeks in August. These were our 14th and 15th trips there. You might get the idea from this that we like the place (and the people). That would be a correct assumption. After diving all over the Caribbean (and the world) we think that Little Cayman has the best diving in the Caribbean (and Pirates Point is the best place on Little Cayman) and it sure is easier to get to than Indonesia. Our January trip was the first time we have been there in the winter. The water in the winter is definitely cooler than the summer. We wore 5 mm suits and were fine. The weather is also different in the winter. The air temperatures were still shorts and T-shirt warm, but the winds were higher so the water was choppier and the viz lower than it typically is in the summer. About 1/3 of the time it was so choppy that we could not make it to the north side of the island and had to dive the south side, which is different, but still good. Overall, the diving has been improving over the last several years. The resorts on the island join together to cull lionfish at least once per week. We saw a few lionfish in January and even less in August. The culling is actually helping. In January we saw a number of fish that we had never seen there before. August was especially good for juveniles (which you would expect to be eaten by the lionfish if they were a problem). We saw 4 juvenile smooth trunkfish - more than we had ever seen before. There were also lots of pipehorses, pipefish, and sailfin blennies; the usual number of large groupers that want to get petted and all sorts of other tropical varieties. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the dive staff. Pirates Point is one of the few resorts I have been to where the dive staff has been there for many years. They know the reefs and are great at finding things, as well as insuring that all the divers take care. They are also good at helping everyone improve their diving techniques. Last, but not least, the food at Pirates Point is great. Unfortunately, I always gain weight there.
