Comments This was my second trip to LCBR, my 20 yo daughter's first. My first was in 2015. This was the first time I've taken a late summer Caribbean trip (August) - although the air temps were certainly hot, the 86F water felt great even with just a rashguard and board shorts.

LCBR was largely unchanged since my last trip - nice rooms, well-kept resort, good food, efficient and well-run dive op and the great diving on the north side of LC. We were looking for a maximum relaxation trip with good diving and LCBR certainly delivers this. Little Cayman is extremely quiet, especially at this time of the year during the off-season. Having had both my knees replaced earlier this year, it was also a good test of the knees doing 3-4 dives/day (they felt great!). We were also fortunate to have both a great group of people on our boat from CA, LA, KY, AZ, CO, NYC, FL...as well as 2 great guides Romel and Lena who were a good combination of fun/enthusiasm and good critter finders.

We had generally good weather, and although we were brushed with some wind, rain, thunderstorms and even a waterspout due to Hurricane Harvey early in the week, we were able to dive the north side of the island every day. We also did the Tibbetts wreck since it was my daughter’s first trip to LC. Dive schedule is 2 in the AM (leaving at 8), back to the resort for lunch, 1 more dive in the PM (leaving at 2). On 2 nights during the week they will offer night or dusk dives, subject to adequate interest. The DMs were good at finding things and got everyone excited about critters in the sand flats as well as the dramatic walls. As other recent reports have mentioned, the DMs set time limits for each dive, but were gentle about reminding folks who exceeded it. 1 DM is in the water for each dive; they leave it up to you whether to follow the DM or not (we did a mix of both). We also did 1 night dive….my relatively bright dual video light rig seemed to attract every sea wasp for miles around (I ended up simply turning my lights off for much of the dive), making it a little less enjoyable, but still fun. Creature sightings were typical vs. my last time at LCBR – eagle rays, reef and nurse sharks, morays, turtles, French angels, queen angels, big barracuda, multiple types of shrimp and nudibranchs, jawfish with eggs, spotted drums and of course the uber-friendly and ever-present flock of Nassau grouper.

Food was plentiful and good. My daughter is vegetarian and non-dairy – we told them in advance and she always had adequate choices and the helpful staff frequently checked in with her to make sure she was happy food-wise. The staff at the resort is great, particularly in the kitchen, where they try hard to remember your name from Day 1…even greeting me by name when I ran into them on the street during early morning walks as they rode to work. Rooms: beds were very comfortable; A/C, hot water and water pressure were all fine. Rooms have plenty of US-style plus/voltage for charging, plenty of drawer and hanging storage. We were in a pool-view room – bar noise did not bother us in the least. Bugs – there were some mosquitoes early AM and dusk, but not overly bothersome as long as you put on some bug spray. The resort felt about ½ to 2/3 full the week we were there, so things never felt busy at the bar, in the hammocks, the dining room, washing gear after dives, etc. All in all we had a great, relaxing week with great diving and great people (guests and staff) – we will definitely be back.

UW Photo Comments No camera rinse tank on the boats, but they did have a fresh water hose you could use to rinse your rig off. Staff handled cameras carefully. 2 large, dedicated camera rinse tanks at the dive shop just off the dock. The only negative being they are black, making it hard to see in the shade with a bunch of black camera risk inside :-)
