Comments This was our 11th trip to the Caymans and 6th trip to Little Cayman Beach Resort. The resort had undergone renovations in late 2008. We chose an upgraded water view room, which turned out to be on the second floor (Room 215) of the rooms that generally surround the pool and bar. We had our own balcony and chaise lounge chairs. The clothes line area behind this building also received a significant upgrade with more room and wooden deck. The room had king size bed, flat screen TV, new air conditioner, small refrigerator, and coffee pot for amenities. The bathroom received new tub, toilet, and tile. All in all, a nice change from former Motel 6 grade rooms. What hasn't changed is the amount of noise from the bar and/or pool and/or next door neighbor that seeps through your walls. With A/C running neighbor cranked up the TV sound so loudly, I thought they were in our room. We had one power outage in our 6 day stay for 1.5 hours around dinner time.
Quality of buffet served food is very good, particularly any fish dishes and the desserts. Spa services were unavailable as that employee left suddenly and no ready replacement was available.

Diving ops still good - you can take the guided tour or go on your own and I'm fine with their limits. We averaged 16 divers on each boat trip, departing around 8:15 each morning and 20 - 30 minutes to dive site and water entry. Seemed like lots of new faces with the dive staff, but Ron and Dottie still anchor the group. Water temps in the low 80's made diving comfortable in dive vest and hood for me and 3 mil shortie for my dive buddy. Different dive sites still provide a nice range of critters - permit, barracuda, tarpon, nurse shark, parrotfish, angel fish, queen triggerfish, southern and yellow rays, scrawled filefish and many others. The groupers seem to have made a nice recovery and were abundant - Leroy, a very friendly grouper meets divers at the Marilyn's Cut site. Several lionfish were spotted and a few captured - looks like they have made a foothold around Little Cayman. Corals in good shape, although some sites show more wear and tear than in past year's. Most days were smooth trips, but one very choppy ride and one day required use of a tag line to recover divers - this also precipitated a "rescue" of one diver from Southern Cross Divers who was separated from his buddy and dive group. No night dives available as the lighted markers for the cut are not working, and have been that way for more than a month - apparently not a priority for the Cayman government to repair.

Travel to and from Little Cayman is still via the twin Otter aircraft flown by Cayman Airways - and the schedule remains much an "island time" event. Our 4:45 departure time on the way to LCBR wound up an hour late. The pilot barely got back off the ground in Little Cayman before sunset - no lights on the runway make night flights a no-no. Return trip to Grand Cayman also island time late - plan your flights out of Grand Cayman with care and lots of cushion.

The concierge style diving is still a big draw for this operation and I would recommend a visit to Little Cayman Beach Resort.
