Comments My wife and I spent the last week of July '09 on a vacation in Grand Cayman. It was our first time there. We booked our own flight, accomodations and diving. For our stay, we booked at the Beachcomber Condos on 7-mile beach. For a dive operator, we used Indigo Divers. Both the condo and the dive operator were perfect choices for us.

The weather was great with high's in the mid- 90's, with nice breezes. The skies varied from clear to cloudy, and we only experienced a couple of small rain showers the entire week.

Chris and Kate Alper of Indigo Divers were great hosts on the four boat trips we booked with them. They apparently have found a nice balance in their routine to accomodate both novice and experienced divers. They are very respectful to all on board, and extremely knowledgeable of the marine life and U/W topography around the island.

Their 28' Searay was well-equipped and perfect for my taste, with a maximum haul of six divers (they also run a 32' Donzi).

Underwater, Chris and Kate each went well out of their way to find, and point out, many small creatures that we just would not have found on our own at the different sites.

We did see one shark, several stingrays and eagle rays, barracuda, and plenty of spiny lobsters. But it was the smaller creatures / fish that seemed to be much more plentiful in the Caymans than in Cozumel - at least in my own experiences.

Chris and Kate located various jawfish, a juvenile Spotted Drum, garden eels, flame scallop (Lima?), etc.

We were also treated to several swim-throughs and wall dives on the North and West sides. On our dive on the Oro Verde (the "wreck of a wreck"), Chris made a strong attempt to coax out a large jewfish from his hideout between two large plate sections. Although he was not successful in "talking" the big guy out into the open, it was entertaining to watch.

While I was certified in 1974, and my wife was certified just this year, we were both extremely pleased with Indigo Divers. And Kate did a wonderful job producing a video of our last outing.

"Two Thumbs Up" for Indigo Divers!
