Comments We had been to the East and North end of Grand Cayman about a year and a half ago-and had wonderful dives; but this diving was arranged through our cruise ship (one of four- Cozumel, Belize,& Roatan to follow). The cruise ship stops were too short to arrange independently. We did e-mail the operation ahead for 63s, which they provided. We were picked up at the pier by the crew, and were taken to their shop to pick up gear We only brought regs and computers. In retrospect, I should have brought my fins, as none fit well, and by day 2 I had blisters on my toes. The dives took place near Georgetown- the sites we did were "Slaughterhouse Wall" and "Governor's Reef". There were 26 divers on the boat, and although many had been certified for years, they only dove once a year on cruises, or vacation. We were divided into 2 groups, and it took the crew a half an hour to get the first group off the boat- this was after the 10 min warning to suit up was given. This oper. caters to cruise ships, and should have had more crew along, and more groups. Most of the other divers in our group had buoyancy problems, and one woman tried to grab and touch everything. The divemaster explained to her during our SI that she was killing things. On the next dive, a small hawksbill went by, which she grabbed. I knew it was going to happen, and the divemaster admonished her afterwards. The water was very warm- about 85 most of the dive, but the areas we dove were sparse of fish. There were some soft corals, yellow sponges, and fans. There was a nice swim thru at the end of the dive. This was a five hr. excursion with no snacks, and only water provided. The first dive was 35 min., the second was 47- time limits enforced. Safety stop and roll calls were adhered to. We were not dropped where we were picked up,but some some distance away from the pier; many had gear to tow back.
