Comments I looked for a June dive location that was not too hard to get to. We had never been to the Cayman's and June sounded pretty good there. We like modest sized dive resorts where it is fun to get to know and hang out with other divers.
Cobalt Coast is a very nice resort, large rooms, actually small one bedroom apartments that overlook the pool and then out to the ocean. It is very well run, great staff. We did not have a car but walked or took the local bus, great fun, to off site restaurants of which there are many on Grand Cayman. We particularly like Ristorante Papagallo. Cobalt Coasts food is fine, but we like more dinner variety.
The diving, sadly, was less than terrific with a couple of notable exceptions. Fish life is way down, not many of anything. The coral was healthy so perhaps fishing is the culprit.
Divetech was not our favorite dive operator. They typically had 10-15 divers with one leading dive master and another one following for safety. Not much fish or critter id activity with so many divers per trip. They are a conscientious bunch, good safety but not even close to our best experiences.
There were a couple of notable exceptions. I took a free dive course from Mark that was just great. He was a patient and thorough instructor who helped me make dramatic improvement in my free diving skills. I recommend his teaching with no reservations. I did one night dive with just one other diver, a young guy getting his advanced certificate. Drew'w briefing was the single best briefing I have ever enjoyed. Then the dive was terrific, octopus, feeding school master, school of tarpon right off the dock, and other night critters out and about. I loved it.
Many divers simply did shore diving right from the dock; they were all pretty happy. Experienced traveling divers used to boats were generally not very pleased.
