Comments My dive buddy and I were on island and staying and diving 2 tank morning boat dives through Sunset House for the week. We had a desire to do some additional afternoon boat dives and particularly wanted to get up and do some North Wall dive sites. Sunset House very rarely goes up north due to its location. Most operators who do afternoon trips up north leave too early for us to get to them due to the fact that we typically would not be back at Sunset House from our morning dives until 12:30-1pm. I did some research and reached out to Brad Nelson (owner/operator of CU Divers) via e-mail. Brad was quick to respond and willing to accommodate our schedule. We settled on a 2pm meet up time at his boat in Governor's Harbor. He sent me a detailed map of how to get there and I asked if we could get Nitrox tanks and he said he'd have them for us. So, we met up at 2pm to meet Brad and Graham (an instructor who works with Brad). He oriented us to his dive boat and off we went. 15 minutes later we were at the mooring for Chinese Wall. Graham stayed on board to man the boat, while Brad geared up and prepared to lead our dive (just the 3 of us). We geared up and back-rolled into the crystal clear blue water and made our way to the mooring line and descended. we dropped through a beautiful swim through and out onto the wall at 100 feet. Beautiful overhangs and reef structure. Nothing like it on the West Bay dive sites. Truly dramatic wall diving. This is what the Cayman's is really all about. The second dive was on the lushest shallow reef site I have ever seen. It was called Monet's Garden and it was truly a movable feast. Brad manned the boat on dive 2 and Graham led the tour. We made our way back to the harbor and my buddy and I looked at each other and at Brad and said- "Can you take us out tomorrow again at 2pm?" - He said sure.
The next day, my dive buddy wasn't feeling well and opted out of diving. Brad willingly accommodated me, even though I would be his only customer. So, off we went again. Princess Penny's Pinnacle for the wall dive and it was truly epic. Spotted Eagle Ray and a couple of passes by a black tip reef shark highlighted the afternoon. The northern wall and shallow reef sites of Grand Cayman are truly incredible. When I come back, it will be to do all my diving up north and I will do it with Cayman University Divers and Brad Nelson. His personalized service, 28 years of Cayman diving experience, excellent communication, high speed boat with no more than 6 passengers and commitment to safety has earned my repeat business. Best dive operator experience ever. Cost is $105 for a 2 tank dive. That is very much on par for Grand Cayman dive operators. The personalized, small group experience makes CU Divers the choice for me among the competition. I didn't ask, but there might be a discount if you were to book an entire week of diving with them.
