Comments Great operation/Great staff/Great diving. I had badly broken my ankle one month before our dive trip (requiring a plate and 3 screws). My cast came off 2 days before we arrived on Cayman. I had e-mailed Jim that I would need extra assistance, and then never worried about it. We had been to CDL 2 times before, and the staff and service were unbeatable. Again the staff was fantastic. I never touched my equipment. Divemasters helped me into my gear at the back of the boat, and I just leaned into the water. After the dive, I took my gear off in the water, with staff assistance getting it on board. This trip occurred just before the Undercurrent article about extra special treatment for divers being offered in some places. I was treated like a queen!
The divemasters were always concerned about what the divers wanted to see, divers' needs, and where the best conditions existed. The coral was healthy. The East End has great swim-throughs, caverns, and canyons. We saw silversides and jacks in the caverns, many tarpon and large morays, parrotfish, filefish, angels, puffers, lobster, crabs, barracudas, several flamingo tongues, a shy hamlet or two, a permut-an Atlantic fish, and a soldier fish with an isopod on it. I am sure there were plenty of other fish that I am forgetting.
The rooms are comfortable and adequate. No TV or phones in the rooms (we consider that a plus). There is a wonderful open air dining room with great food prepared by Tim and Roy. Buffet breakfast followed by hot lunch buffet that is ready as soon as the boat comes in from the 2-am dives (1 wall dive, and 1-60 foot dive). There is an afternoon snack followed by a sit-down dinner. The staff eats with the guests, and comraderie abounds. Dawn is the friendliest bartender around. If guests have booked a 3-dive package in advance, the pm boat goes out even with only 1 diver on board. Night dives and trips to Sting Ray City are available.
We love the quiet of the East End and we love CDL. Big thanks to: Jim, Kim, Julian, Eileen, Mark, Sas, Rico, Rich, Dawn, Tim and Roy for helping us have another grand time in Grand Cayman.
