Comments 10 day charter on Belize Aggressor III: This was my second trip to Belize on a live abord (did the BA IV 5 years ago), and Belize did not disappoint! This is trip was on the smaller of the two boats operating for Aggressor in Belize, but it is a fine live aboard experience.
There was a small maintenance issue the day we boarded which caused us to leave the dock a day late. Aggressor did offer a land excursion (at no additional cost) to the popular cave tube experience in the Belize Jungle. A fun distraction, but the hour+ drive each way made for a long day. Luckily the boat repairs were completed during our land excursion, and we departed the dock upon our return to the boat.
First day/night was rainy and windy which made for a bit of a rough overnight crossing, but once we were on the outer reefs/atolls, the weather and dive conditions were calm and clear.
All the diving was wall/reef style Caribbean diving. There was one guided dive to the famous Blue Hole; one a single dive there, and the dive is as a group dive, due to depth mostly, but well worth it. After the Blue Hole dive we spent a few hours at a nearby island bird sanctuary.
Lots of sharks and photo opportunities with the dives. We saw dolphins on two dives which was a first experience for me on scuba. Fantastic! There was one wreck with two dives back to back over the 10 days, a new addition to the Belize reef system. On its side, the wreck was a nice break from wall/reef profiles.
Night dives were all good with lots of octopus, squid, crabs, lobsters, tarpon, nurse sharks, spotted drum, eels, etc. Ample photo opportunities for nighttime macro.
Overall boat layout was typical aggressor format with dive deck, one cabin up from main deck, and the rest below the main deck. Salon/galley area off the main dive deck. Meals were all high quality, and the galley crew went over the top with accommodations for multiple food sensitivities among the group.
Sun deck has hot tub, lounge chairs and bar area with two local draft beer taps for the end of the day.
I have not done any diving in Belize other than the Live Aboard format. If diving is the reason you are going, live aboard is definitely the way to go!
Safe diving.
