Comments Kingston is a nice old college town on the northeastern shore of Lake Ontario at the mouth of the St. Lawrence. Because of this, there have been many shipwreaks over the years. In addition, Kingston has done clean-ups where they towed old derelics out for sinking. With the zebra mussels and the cold, fresh water working together, you get a wreak lovers paradise. We were treated like responsible adults and only had to fill out a next of kin form. The boat was a fast 36' all aluminum with a head and oxygen on board. Boat driver Steve Flaherty certainly knew all about the local area, what the diving would be like, and how conditions would turn out on the lake. He was happy and smiling until conditions started to change our last day. Our safety and enjoyment were their concern.

The Kingston dive community has placed permenant bouys off of the wreaks to preserve them. You drop off of the stern and take the line to the anchor line. Dropping down thru the thermocline (30') to about 20' above the wreak and there it all is. You can see the whole or most of the wreaks. On some, artifacts found by previous divers are left for you to observe and go back in time. By the end of the week we had done most of the major wreaks.

We stayed at the Days Inn, but there are as many hotels to stay as there are restaurants to choose from. We are already planning to return.
