Comments Our dive shop, Wateree Dive Center of Columbia, SC, returned for another New Years dive adventure. Unfortunately, Covid plays a big part of our trip. We had 42 divers test negative the day before we flew AA from CLT to MIA to BON and all made it. We were given home tests to take at our resort, Divi Flamingo, on arrival. The paperwork and hoops to jump through were a bit of a hassle. The AA app, Verifly, is a joke and totally worthless. We enjoyed our diving with Alvin and Laurel, and they were great as always. The corals looked pretty good, although the cruise ships were returning. We had to test again on day 5 & 6 to be able to leave and 11/42 turned up +before our scheduled exit. Our boat was ordered back to the dock after the first dive of day #5 when we were told someone in our group tested +. We had to go into quarantine until we were tested -. We were to leave Wednesday the 5th and most of us were negative and were able to leave. Unfortunately, 11 had to stay until negative and the last person got out the next Monday, the 10th. The people left had to stay in quarantine had to stay in their room, with food delivered to them and not being able to even go to the patio of their room. Divi seemed to work hard, delivering food to the room, but what a hassle! The messaging from the health department, who took charge of everything, was a little inconsistent, but thank goodness it all worked out.
We look forward to returning, but when we’re over some of these Covid hassles. I would certainly recommend travel insurance, being sure you have coverage for Covid. The diving was good, with a good many green morays, but only one turtle. The Hilda Hooker, still there, on its starboard side, unchanged. We will return.
