Comments Our family has been diving in Bonaire for 30+ years. We have stayed at Divi, Flamingo Beach every time. We have purchased several time-shares over the years. We go back because of the people, especially the dive shop crew. Our time share is less than 100 yards from the dive shop and the dock where our gear is stored. Diving is effortless. Boats are well maintained, dive masters are courteous and helpful and shore diving off of the dock is easy. I have many hundreds of photographs of underwater fish and creatures, most found within 200 yards of the dive operation. Sea horses, frog fish, yellow head jaw fish with mouth brooding males, lion fish, eagle rays, turtles, moray eels, tarpon, cherub fish, schools of creole wrasse, cleaner stations, breeding rituals of many fish including flounder are found each year. Serge Degroote, dive shop operator is most professional and accommodating. Dive shop has modest retail supplies. Service is exceptional.
There are two great restaurants on property. Town is 1/2 mile walk away.
There is noticeable loss of soft corals and hard corals over the years. Fish and critters are still there though.

UW Photo Comments Bonaire is a small island with most diving on the lee side where water is calm. Shore diving is popular. Coral starts at 20-30 feet. Drop off is gradual to 200 feet. No walls. Coral can be reached in less than 50 yards from the shoreline. This allows photographers ample bottom time. Go to 60 feet, swim into the current, if there is a current and return at 30 feet to point of entry. Lots of macro stuff in less than 60 feet. There are no BIG things in Bonaire with exception of occasional whale shark (rare) and a few nurse sharks. Dolphin pods travel with the dive boat on occasion. Ideal place to spend time at cleaning stations. Ample time to wait for frog fish to extend it's lure. Be respectful of the coral and the critters, I want to see them in the next several years. You may Google: Flickr-Robert Wrenn for many of my fish/critter photos. I use Ikelite housing and strobes for my Nikon D 800. Favorite lens is 105 mm macro and 60 mm macro. I began underwater photography with a Nikonos V, switched to housed Nikons with film and on second digital camera. Digital makes it easier to shoot and edit. Film was hard to get processed over the years.
Please enjoy the island as my family has for 30+ years.
