Comments As this trip to Bermuda was my first and an anniversary holiday, I planned for one two-tank dive day out of the four we were on the islands. My wife is a non-diver, so the rest of the time was spent relaxing with her. We highly recommend The Pink beach resort, even though it is a 45-minute taxi ride to Somerset Bridge and the chosen dive operations.

I reviewed all the entries on undercurrent.org and then contacted Blue Water Divers & Watersports [divebermuda.com] which has been operating in the islands for 30+ years. The reservation process and prepayment policy guaranteed a spot on their dive boat, Tsunami. She is 7 year old Newton Dive Special, around 36 feet long, powered by one inboard diesel engine. Our captain that day was On Drej, a very capable and knowledgeable navigator/helmsman as well as chief divemaster. The remaining crew were Marx, a South-African dive instructor and Stassia, a Russian/Bermudian Divemaster.

Prior to departing from Somerset Bridge, On Drej gave a complete briefing of the dive boat, facilities, and safety requirements. At each of the two dive sites, On Drej provided a complete and comprehensible briefing and history of the wreck site.

The wrecks chosen were a 1800s wreck carrying milestones which were scattered all over the wreck site and The Airplane, a 1963 crash site of a USA military B-29. My buddy, Juergen, and I covered then entire site on each dive where he took photographs for his pregnant wife on board the dive boat. As an aerospace professional, I thoroughly enjoyed the Airplane wreck as there is still much remaining of the aircraft from 1963.

Dive Policy

Dive own profile yes
Enforced diving restrictions The dive profile was a visible area around each wreck dive site. The captain suggested following the divemaster, but not straying too far from the dive boat. The depth of each dive site was no greater than 55 feet, so we were only limited by the 500 psi required when returning to the dive boat.

UW Photo Comments As I am not an underwater photographer, I can only state my observations from my day of diving. The rinse barrel on board the dive boat was small. The camera rigs that my fellow divers brought had no problem fitting in the barrel, however if several large rigs were present this set-up would not have been acceptable.
