Comments It's a two hour bumpy, windy boat ride to the resort from Belize City. They pick up/drop off guests on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. If you want to arrive/leave on other days, that can be arranged for extra $$s. We had the resort and staff all to ourselves (for two of our seven days, that is) and felt very pampered. (Can't promise that to subsequent guests.) The diving is very good, with plenty of fish, and a wide variety, too (i.e., a healthy reef system). Did not see a single Lionfish all week long!

We had “valet” diving, with our tanks set up and changed and gear rinsed for us. You don your wetsuit in your room, walk out to the boat, and in the time it takes to put your weight belt on and defog your mask, you are at the dive site! It's a back roll in, and meet up underwater at the mooring. Dives were typically an hour long.

Note to the wise on the boat ride to/from to the mainland: On the way back,I wore my dive hood. It tamed the wind in my hair and reduced the wind roar in my ears to an acceptable level. Also, plan on getting sometimes salt-water sprayed and your luggage taking on some “dampness”.

Back to the resort, we had Gilroy as our chef. He was very attentive, visiting every table after meals were served, accepting compliments and suggestions. Our main complaint was that we were fed too much! When we spoke up about a couple of problems with our room, the manager, Elvis, quickly fixed them.

To extend our time in Belize, we added on four days inland. We found a wonderful little resort in the San Ignacio area with an activity package. Maya Mountain Lodge serves healthy, tasty food (again, too much!) We had a day long visit to the Mayan ruins at Tikal, a half day horseback ride to Mayan ruins at Xunantunich, and a full day visit on the Macal River by boat.
