Comments Let me set this one up with the description off the website:

"Glover's Atoll is a World Heritage Site and Marine Reserve and was named after pirate brothers, John and Rodger Glover, in the 1750's. Glovers Atoll Island Lodge is located on our privately owned 9 acre; 5 hectare Northeast Cay in the Glovers Marine Reserve, white sand, coral, & coconut trees, left in their natural state on top of the pristine reef."

This trip is one of the best times I've had in Belize because this is such a great country to visit!! Two buds of mine and I flew down and rented a pickup for the week (mucho $$ but get over it because it's worth it for the freedom). If you don't shell out for the ride, your going to need extra time and patience to get around. We lit out of BZE city around noon south to Sittee River near Dangriga. Skip eating lunch at the airport or BZE city and hit JB's Bar around mile 32 on Western HWY on the way to Belmopan passed the Belize ZOO for good food and a stout. Glover's has cabins for rent on Sittee river that are great base out of if in the area before hand for a couple of days. We drove up to Jaguar Reserve and found two magnificent trails that ended in waterfall pools that were just spectacular...the 4 hour trip to the island is on a funky catamaran and there is room to bring extra provisions, we brought a 5day cooler from Walmart to keep our beer cold. Ice, beer, water, and other supplies were obtained at Sittee River Marina or in town. We bought into the full meal package but others there were doing the "survivor" thing by living off the sea. Not recommended if you want to focus on diving. Besides, you will miss the Becky, Jacklin', Warren, Ean, and Rudy show...see this is a family run operation and you can invite yourself into their world that is uniquely their own or you can minimize interaction, your choice, but you'll miss out on a lot of entertainment!!! Bringing a favorite card or dice game is a sure way to get "in". This island is uncensored...make of what you will...being out on the edge, it is an ocean sieve. Don't hold it against the Lomont's. I chose to spent most of my surface intervals on beach clean up around my cabin figuring if everyone pitches in....the whole place is beautiful but it is also inhabited by humans which means human impact.....

No-seeums were not a problem except at night if the wind dies so I would bring no-seeum netting (not mosquito netting!) to cover bed we did not have and had no problems. Platforms over water are awesome, we kayaked from the cabin to the dive boat everyday. Dive compressor on the island dry fills AL80s check pressures on cooled tanks before leaving dock and top off if necessary. Very low key operation, good idea to help out if seems appropriate otherwise, lay in the hammocks and chill if want to. Dive skiffs hold twenty divers but we had the boats to ourselves, would be tight fit if full. Ean was our divemaster and he quickly adapted to our level of expertise. Most dive sites are within wetsuit donning time frame others might have to endure 10-15 min ride. lots to choose from, sheer walls, canyons to coral gardens, swim threws, or drift dives. Saw dolpins, reef and bull sharks, LOTs of groupers and snappers, Aquarium and white sands my favorite. Dive package says 12 dives and a night dive but we did 3 dives a day plus the night dive. Should have done more night dives cause saw large octopuses!! Great photo opportunities...this is great Caribbean diving not much delicate coral but there is black coral hidden away, lots of soft corals. in the end, did not want to leave, tried to marry into the family but no luck....

Got off the island (Jack, we have to go back!!!) and headed to the the interior for some caving....found the best pool table in Belize to be at Turtle Inn. Woke up last day, had friedjacks at JB's, zip lined at Jaguar Paw, two beers at the airport, and then made the plane home. The End....
