Comments Wow! Not really anything bad here. This has always been described as good but basic. We thought it was beyond that. The food is not haute cuisine, however it is very good, and they often took special requests. The rooms are old, but freshly painted, kept and cleaned. The island is remarkably free of violence or crime, so we never felt threatened, except by the passing shark.....and speaking of sharks.

After we arrived, we put out our gear by our door, and they picked it up and took it to the marina, then set it up on the boat. After that all we really had to do was sit down and have them bring the gear to us, dive and get out and they would take it off and on the rack where it was changed for the next dive. We would have breakfast @ 7:30, on the boat @ 8:30. Most early morning locations were about 15 minute boat ride, then come back in slowly for 2nd morning dive, have lunch and do one afternoon dive, except once a week, you have afternoon island tour and night dive that night. Usually schedule is from Saturday to Saturday. Riding Rock has arrangements with Spirit Airlines (who serves the Club Med on SS). There was daily maid service and were free to make shore dives, although not much of a reef off the shore. Favorite dives were Hole in the Wall, Runway 10, Double Caves and Vicky's Place. All the diving is wall diving, with ending at sandy or shallower depths. Lots of beautiful and dramatic swim-thrus.

The island (as is most of the Caribbean) experiencing and increase in the number of lionfish. They have no known natural predators. The DM's actively search and kill the lionfish, which has made an interesting turn on diving. After the DM's spear the lionfish, the passing grouper or shark get the results. Once dead, the lionfish are not that poisonous. So the sharks appear when they hear the boats, and often guide the DM's to where the lionfish are hiding. It's a very cool scene to watch - - from the wall! We saw sharks on almost every dive, and the guaranteed appearance of the hammerhead & scalloped hammerhead didn't disappoint either.

The shallower reef seems to be in great shape as well - lots of Pedersons, banded & squat anemone shrimp - lots of juvenile drums, & other fish. The reef seems to be teaming with life. We were both very impressed and will return for another week of excellent diving. This is not a location for your first diving or your open water unless you are of Cousteau lineage. It's advanced diving, but it's a must after you get to that stage of diving.
