Comments I had a nice time and was pleasantly surprised with the diving in Nassau, Bahamas. I was very happy with my experience with Dive Dive Dive, the boat was a little run down but had a great captain and divemaster and they took us to good sites and gave us good breifings and help, but didn't take away our autonomy. I set my equipment up the first day but after they saw that I was able to do it they set it up for me, changed my taks, double checked things etc. After a few days with them I felt like they treated me like a friend.

I think the scuba diving industry in Nassau is in a period of flux. I visited Stuart Coves and it is clear that they have the volume and the money to dominate the market there. I wonder if some of the smaller operators (DDD, Nassau Scuba Center) will be able to remain in buisness. At both DDD and NSC they don't always go out since they don't allways have divers. I got the feeling this was hard on the employees since they would end up in the position of waiting to see if their boss wanted them to work the following day. I think I will go back to the Bahamas but that next time I will dive with Stuart Coves just because it is a larger operation, seems more reliable. Of note, Stuart Coves is much closer to the dive sites.

The Nassau Beach hotel is fine, a big hotel, on the beach, clean, nice view from the rooms, friendly employees, lots of food options. I couldn't believe how inexpensive I got the room for (I booked a package with air through priceline.com). Nassau, Bahamas is a high traffic place with direct flights from many US cities and a big cruise ship port. It's also kind of over built, with little un-developed space on the island. The worst experience we had was renting mopeds to drive around the island hoping to find some scenic secluded beach, but even the most secluded beaches have houses with big fences to keep you out. In the end one moped broke down and it was a big hassle. Would also avoid taxi's if possible (expensive and some drivers are nasty), the buses are easy and cheap. The Adastra Gardens (zoo) was cool, and the best experience was sitting on the beach looking at the amazingly light blue water, as well as the diving.
