Comments Custom Aquatics is a small husband and wife run dive operation
on New Providence. They specialize in custom tailored dive trips for small groups and families. If you are willing to spend a little more then this is definitely the way to go.
I was diving with my son who was certified last year and before
our trip I discussed our time schedule and dive interests with Fran
from the shop. Pick up time at our hotel was up to us, and Fran
showed up right in time to take us to their shop. We were greeted
there by her husband Monty and our gear was loaded onto the boat.
Water conditions were excellent (conditions apparently deteriorated as the week went on with higher winds and rougher seas) and they helped us set up our gear and discussed the plan for the day. I had requested at least one wreck dive and they had no problem accomadating our request. We did three dives with them, a shallow
wreck in about 50-60 feet with excellent (over 100 feet) visibility,
lots of lionfish (they are everywhere now), a shallow reef with plenty of small tropicals, grouper and decent coral (some algae overgrowth), and to end the day another shallow wreck in only about
25-30 feet which allowed for long bottom time with good lighting for my rather primitive camera set up.
Snacks and drinks were provided and they also had vegetarian fare as requested for my son. Overall I was quite pleased with their
level of service. The chance to request dive sites and dive your own profile with no rushing to get out of the water to satisfy a bus schedule made the higher cost compared to larger operations worth it.
Fran and Monty were great to spend the day with and have many years of experience with the local dive scene. I highly recommend them especially for a family or small group if you want a customized day of diving in a relaxed atmosphere.
