Comments Our dive shop, Wateree Dive Center in Columbia, SC, returned again to Green Turtle Cay, staying at the Green Turtle Club and diving with Brendal's Dive Center. We flew from Jacksonville to Marsh Harbor and took taxis to Treasure Cay to catch the ferry to Green Turtle. The rooms were fine and we ate breakfast every AM at the Green Turtle Club and took box lunches on the two-dive days. We started about 9:00 or so and did two dives each day. The water temp was 82-84 and viz was OK. We had a number of sharks on each dive, usually 3-5 and sometimes 8 or so, including a couple of lemon sharks. The boat is OK, and can accomodate our 14 divers OK. We would return to the shop between 2-3 pm each day and had a picnic the last day.

One thing that we noticed was a marked decrease in the number of lionfish. Brendal and Mary have been leaders in trying to stop the spread of lionfish in Green Turtle and surrounding islands. The number of juvenile reef fish seemed to be larger than last year, when there were numerous lionfish on each dive. The "Lionfish Roundup" held in June netted about 1500 or so lionfish and these were studied by scientists and educational leaders and will hopefully let us know more about these invasive tropical fish who have no known predators. This was done in a 24 hour permit.
I applaud Brendal and Mary for their efforts.

A golf cart is needed to get around the small island of Green Turtle Cay. There are several good restaurants with plenty of lobsters. Miss Emily's, the Green Turtle Club, Laura's, and Harvey's are good local restaurants.

The dives were up to 95 minutes in length and there was a lot to see. This is easy diving and warm water, no current, and lots of fishlife make this a good place to go and we will return.
