Comments This is the third year in a row I've done two weeks of diving in May with SE Aruba Fly n Dive. This isn't valet diving, but you get a great value for the price, and crew will help you set up your gear if you need help. Very safety conscious. The 14-dive package (tanks % weights)with own equipment was $431; each tank after was $23. I did 24 dives for about $700! Rinse tank unboard and another at shop with shower for rinsing off. Can store your gear for you overnight. Pickup/return from your hotel included. Dives sites can be chosen by first person to dive that day, unlike some other Aruba operations that have a "if it's Monday, we're diving A and B." OK, this isn't Bonaire (which I haven't dived), but they corals (soft and hard) on the reefs are varied and interesting, and I checked off a lot of fish on the list, including a few I hadn't seen before (butter hamlet, for one). Got to go inside the wrecks (ship Antilla and two airplanes); last year, penetration of the Antilla was forbidden due to shifting after the hurricane in 2008. Saw about 12 turtles total, most off Arashi Beach on the northwest coast. Also a southern stingray and a spotted eagle ray (southwest coast). Ratio of DMs to divers was low (not more than 6 divers to a DM) so divers could be separated by experience. Strong south to north current during the first week; on one dive, my buddy and I drifted past 3 or 4 sites, coming up up at 69 minutes, and I still had 900+ PSI left! Divers were a mix of European and American vacationers, with some Europeans living and working on Aruba. They don't work with cruise ships, so the only cruise ship divers they get are ones who book directly. After a few days of diving, you feel like you're among long-time friends. I'll definitely dive with them again next year. I own timeshare weeks at the Marriott, and it's nice to not have to bother with a car, but come back after diving, relax on the beach or at the pool, then stroll along the high-rise strip in the evening, checking out specials at the restaurants, window-shopping, etc. If you're traveling with non-diving friends, Aruba is a great choice. It was only cloudy (with some rain) on two days out of the two weeks. Windy (15 mph) is normal for Aruba year-round; blows mostly from the shore westward and keeps the bugs away!
