Comments To be fair, we were there the week hurricane Omar dumped a tropical storm on Aruba, so it knocked us out of 3 days of diving. The 1st pre-storm diving day was good, but other divers on the boat said the previous 3 days had been much clearer vis. Corals in pretty good shape and we dove several plane wrecks. Saw small fish - some schools, sting ray, turtle, lots of eels, lots of micro critters, lobster, anenomes. We dove with JADS Dive Center, located at the southern tip of Aruba, jadsaruba@yahoo.com. They will provide transportation to/from your motel. Small outfit, 2 boats. One carries 6 divers, the other carries 10, plus they have shore diving. Dive masters and captain were friendly, helpful, accomodating, knowledgable about diving the area, and safety concious. Some other dive operations are larger, but cater to the cruise ship crowd. We really liked Aruba, it was clean, friendly, diverse, beautiful beaches. If not everyone in your group dives, there are plenty of other things to do and see. Best view: from the California Lighthouse at the north end of the island. I could see miles of beach and ocean. Worst view: the back side of a mature woman in a thong bathing suit. Two good restaurants: La Trattoria, Italian food, right beside the California Lighthouse. Beautiful view, terrace seating, soft background music so you can enjoy visiting with your companion and nature; The Flying Fishbone, serves a varied menu, and you can either sit on the beach right beside the water or inside. It's a beautiful restaurant, and they're only open for dinner. If you have time, rent a car and go to the Arikok National Park. Sheer rock clifs, caves, drop offs to the ocean that are beautiful and rolling hills. It's very different from the leeward side of the island. We'll probably go back to Aruba next year to dive and see more.
