Comments Have been visiting Anguilla for some 17 years now - and have seen the progressive degradation of the entire Caribbean reef system over 20+ years of diving. Temperature? Microbes? pH of seawater? Calcium ion concentration? From Grand Turk in the North to Curacao in the south, and from Cozumel in the West to the entire Windward and Leeward chain -it's all too similar - the hard coral is almost gone, and what is left is covered with leafy algae or the 'creeping crud'. The planktonic column which sustains the food chain, rising above the coral heads, is almost absent now, so the small fish are depleted, the intermediate fish are rare, and the large ones almost totally absent (And the few fish which do attain a significant size soon succumb to the most voracious predator of all - humans.)

That said, if your travels take you to Anguilla, by all means dive with Anguillian Divers. Small intimate and personal, I have been diving with them for over a decade - decent equipment and a friendly smile. BTW - you never know where or when you are going to get a great dive - one of my favorites anywhere is Blowing Rock - amazing underwater topography, variable conditions (crashing waves on one side, calm on the other) and routine siting of pelagics - turtles, spotted eagle rays, and even 10 + minutes with a dolphin 2 years ago. Ask for this dive by name! Another fun dive - especially for newer divers - Osterdeep wreck - covered with orange cup coral, teeming with barracuda, jacks and other fish, large lobster etc.
