Comments We've been going to Bonaire for many years. Much has changed. More traffic, cruise ships and diminished reef life. Lots of construction on the island and roads seem to open and close at will. The main road to the airport was open on Friday and closed Saturday when we left for the airport. Have a backup plan! I would avoid downtown on any day a cruise ship is in port. All that being said, for the money, Bonaire is still a great place to dive.

We've stayed at Captain Don's our last few trips. We book an upper level Junior Suite. The U.L. Junior suites have a balcony overlooking the water, the L.L. Suites have a patio with a water view. The rooms are equipped with a coffee pot, microwave, small refridgerator, and sink. Basic dishes and utensils are included. There are plenty of grocery stores to stock the "fridge".

If you haven't been to Bonaire before, there are tons of small fish and critters and the occasional turtle. The only really "big" stuff we've seen are Tarpon and Snappers. We noticed a lot of damaged and dead coral. Captain Don's has a great dive site right off their dock we saw Tarpon there every day.

My dive bag didn't arrive in Bonaire. I only had my mask and regulator with me. Captain Don's said they would provide me with whatever I needed until my luggage arrived at no charge. I really appreciated the helping hand as I had anticipated having to rent the needed gear. Delta had my luggage in Bonaire the next afternoon.
