Comments Full disclosure: we have owned a cottage affiliated with Habitat since 1998, so of course, my view of the resort is interested. That said, we remain very happy with Habitat, particularly under the leadership of general manager Claire Sealy and dive shop manager Roger Haug. The resort's rooms and cottages have been renovated very smartly in the past year or two, with freshly tiled baths, new furniture and bedding, paint and carpentry; when family members stayed in a regular room (overflow from our cottage), they found it very comfortable and enjoyed the mini-fridge, coffee maker, and microwave. Investigate the room or cottage type to make sure you book what is best for you. They now have a three-bedroom cottage for families as well.
The dive operation is certainly one of the best, if not the best, of the island's resorts. Dive staff are helpful, and great resources for information (Martijn is one of the best u/w naturalists I know). Feel free to contact me if you have Habitat or island questions.
Bonaire's waters are often colder than other parts of the Caribbean, and a wise diver will bring an extra hooded vest just in case. I am a wimp and wear a heavy suit most of the time, but a normal person will be fine in a 3mm in the summer and 5mm in the winter. Winter water temps can go as low as 74F.
Rum Runners, the on-site restaurant (not operated by Habitat, but affiliated) has improved dramatically in the past few years. I particularly like the Bonairean Cobb Salad, with grilled fish, shrimp, bacon, egg, and blue cheese with a dressing made from a local herb.
